PLEASE READ OVER THE PREP AND FOLLOW IT AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE TO ENSURE A SUCCESSFUL SESSION.
On the day of your maternity portrait session, plan to relax and take it easy both before and after the session.
Plan to take a long bath or just take a nap before your appointment. You want to be well rested, relaxed and comfortable for your photoshoot.
Preparation: A couple of hours before your maternity photo session, eliminate any clothing that causes lines or indentations on the body—that would include anything elastic or stretchy, such as maternity pants with a panel, elastic waist pants, socks, snug underwear, bras and so on. If possible, wear a loose nightgown, dress, or robe to keep your body as smooth as possible. Most maternity portraits do show a bare belly, so you definitely do not want to have any marks on the tummy area. At the very least, lower the waistband on your maternity pants or underwear so there are no lines on your tummy and everything is tucked below your belly. Wear a loose fitting top to the actual session. Any lines on your skin that appear on portraits can be touched up by us in the editing process so don’t stress too much about it. This is especially important if your maternity portraits will include any nudity or partial nudity. We recommend that you wear easy, slip-on shoes or slippers (please note that during this process your shoes may get a little dirty). If your session is in a location that require some hiking, we recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes.
What should I bring? We have a variety of maternity gowns for you to wear for your session so what we ask you to bring is minimal. Have any particular clothing you want to be photographed in? Fabrics that adhere to the body’s curves work well. Even a gorgeous necklace, high heels, or a favorite hat may work themselves into a portrait or two. If you are choosing a slim fit dress, please pack a thong. If you are selecting a flowy and open dresses, please pack a non-thong underwear in nude. Pack a strapless bra as well.
If your session includes your partner: For your partner, pick 2 colors that compliment each other and go with that.
For fall, try to match the colors around the outside: mustard, browns, and beige.
To think about: Before your session, think about whether you are comfortable with any nudity or partial nudity and the overall effect you desire from your portraits. If you have any physical concerns—related to either the baby or something about your body you’re particularly sensitive about, be sure to discuss those issues with us as well. We want you to be open and honest with us, and as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Remember, it is always about that beautiful baby bump!
Please keep who you bring with at a minimum so that you are able to enjoy your session worry free of who is all watching and you may have to look after. Once the photo shoot begins, relax. Enjoy. Embrace the intimacy of the moment and try to forget you are being photographed at all. Revel in that beautiful, maternal glow and enjoy the anticipation of becoming a mother. We will take care of the rest!
What to expect the day of: Both photographers will be on scene to help you in and out of outfits. We have a traveling changing tent for your privacy. Dont fret! Our team will guide you through all poses. You can place your trust in us to guide you from beginning to end as the creative directors of your photo session. You can expect to be on location anywhere from 40-60 minutes.
